Fresh Profile: Agman Partners serves up a diversified menu for direct and co-investments

From burgers and hotels to insurance companies, Agman Partners is an active investor that partners with other family offices for investments in private equity, real estate and public markets.

 The Chicago and Omaha-based Agman is the family office of Jeff Silverman, who made his fortune by investing in commodity futures.

 You could meet Silverman’s son Howard Silverman, the chief executive officer, or Hans Pusch, who leads the firm’s private capital investment strategy, at one of their 45 Burger King or 70 Church’s Chicken locations that are part of their restaurant business Ampler. Or at the Iron Horse Hotel, part of another portfolio company Aparium Hotel Group.

 The family office also invests in growth equity and venture capital and partners with fundless sponsors.

Agman makes direct investments and co-investments with other family offices and investors in business services, financial services, media and entertainment and technology. Agman’s investments are primarily in North America.

The family office has more than $400 million under management and invests in companies that generate between $5 million to $25 million in ebitda.

Its private equity portfolio includes RedBird Capital Partners, Mario Tricoci Hair Salons & Day Spas, RA Capital, AngelList and Accomplice.

Earlier this year, Agman’s investment CarbonBlack‘s IPO raised $152 million, pricing nine million shares at $19. Agman also has an investment in the insurance firm Virtus and founded the Omaha National Insurance Company.

Through MAg Partners, Agman invests in real estate and has investments in a mix of real estate assets, including residential, hotel, office, retail, multi-use, land and industrial properties across the U.S.
