Berwin Leighton to build PE funds practice

Berwin Leighton Paisner is boosting its five-strong funds practice with the appointment of Timothy Spangler as partner. Spangler, who joins from Latham Watkins in London, will give Berwin Leighton Paisner’s funds practice the experience and headcount it needs to move into the structuring of private equity funds.

Currently Berwin Leighton Paisner is better known to the private equity community for its investment deal execution than for its fund structuring work, which has so far largely been confined to hedge funds and CDO work. As John Bennett, head of corporate at the firm, points out much of the fundamentals of this type of work can be translated to the private equity fund sphere.

Spangler is admitted to the New York bar.
