Candover appoints two operations partners

Candover has announced the appointment of Clive Dolman and Alexis Dormandy as operations partners.

The role of operations partner is a new position at Candover, and will involve working alongside Candover’s portfolio companies.

Dolman is already well known to the private equity house having been part of two buyout teams it has previously backed. He was CFO of Swissport, a global ground handling business which was sold to Ferrovial in 2005, and CFO of European Rail Catering which was sold to Rail Gourmet, the rail catering arm of Swissair, in 1997.

He has also been CEO of deckchair.com, an internet travel business, and CFO of Swissair Services based in Zurich. Clive qualified as a chartered accountant with Price Waterhouse, and also spent ten years in corporate finance with Charterhouse Bank.

Dormandy joins Candover from Orange, where he was Chief Marketing Officer, responsible for the £3.1bn P&L of the UK consumer division. Prior to Orange he held a number of positions at Virgin Group, where he managed various business units including Virgin.com. He was Virgin’s Director of Corporate Development for the launch of a number of businesses including Virgin Mobile, and was a member of the Virgin Group senior management team. He also has significant management consultancy experience, working for McKinsey and more recently Accenture, where he was Deputy Head of the European M&A Practice.

Colin Buffin, Managing Director of Candover commented: “Making sure we fully realise the potential of the businesses in which we invest is a critical part of our job these days – high entry prices make a focus on value creation an all-important strategy from day one. Our Operations Partners will work with the highly capable management teams we back to make sure they have all the support they need to develop their businesses during the period of our investment. Both Clive and Alexis have a wealth of operational experience to employ in these roles, and we are delighted to welcome them on board to help us build on our existing portfolio management skills.”
