Carlyle moves into Eastern Europe

US private equity firm The Carlyle Group has opened an office in Warsaw as it looks to increase its exposure to Central and Eastern Europe. The team will be headed by managing director Ryszard Wojtkowsk, who joins from Polish firm Enterprise Investors, where he was a managing partner.

The firm’s strategy in the region will focus on growth capital and buyout investments in stable, growing companies in a range of sectors, including consumer and retail, industrial, IT and media, pharmaceuticals/healthcare and financial services. With the addition of a CEE team, the geographic scope of Carlyle’s investment capabilities will extend to Poland, the Czech Republic, Hungary, Slovakia, Romania, Bulgaria, Slovenia, the Baltic States (Lithuania, Latvia, Estonia). In addition to countries that have already joined the European Union, investments may also be considered in Croatia, Serbia and Ukraine.
