Chile private pension fund profits tumble in Oct

(Thomson IM) – The profitability of Chile’s five private pension funds, a system long lauded as a regional benchmark, was hard hit for a second month in October amid the global financial crisis, the sector’s regulator said on Monday.

The value of the holdings of the so-called ‘A Fund’, which heavily invested in shares and is considered the riskiest of the funds, tumbled 21.3 percent in October after falling 11.8 percent in September, the Superintendency of Pension Fund Administrators said.

The value of the pension funds at October 31 was $69.084 billion, down 26.7 percent from the same date last year.
