PRESS RELEASE

Wilton, CT, April 12, 2021 – Commonfund Capital today announced the closing of its inaugural environmental sustainability fund, Commonfund Capital Environmental Sustainability Partners 2020, L.P., at $233 million. The fund had strong support from a variety of limited partners globally including foundations, endowments, family offices, pensions, corporations, registered investment advisors and consultants.
The private equity investment partnership will make direct investments into companies, operating platforms and specialist manager funds and secondaries in a diversified set of environmental sustainability sectors and themes including renewables; food, agriculture and water; and resource efficiency. The fund is designed for investors pursuing private capital investment returns, measurable environmental impacts, and investment opportunities not generally available in the public market.

Ethan Levine, Managing Director and Co-Head of Commonfund Capital’s real assets and sustainability investment practice said “We are very appreciative of the confidence and support from our investors. Environmental sustainability investing is becoming an essential part of a thoughtful asset allocation and a source of resilient, meaningful economic value and returns – particularly within the private markets.”

This fund is Commonfund Capital’s first dedicated environmental sustainability fund, building on a history of sustainability investments across its private capital programs. Commonfund Capital CEO & President Peter Burns remarked, “Our environmental sustainability fund will benefit from the strength of our global investment franchise and 30 plus years of established private capital relationships.”

Since Commonfund Capital’s inception in 1988, it has managed nearly $20 billion in cumulative private capital commitments from investors, including approximately $3.5 billion in the real assets and sustainability space.
