Doerr Donates to Cancer Center

John Doerr has been a backer of health care companies, having invested in WebMD and Now he and his wife Ann have personally gotten behind the fight to improve cancer care.

The Kleiner Perkins Caufield & Byers GP and his wife have given an undisclosed amount to the Stanford University Medical Center to establish a directorship at the recently opened Stanford Cancer Center.

Radiation oncologist Dr. Steven Leibel was named the first Ann & John Doerr Medical Director of Stanford Cancer Center, and will spearhead all cancer programs in patient care and clinical research.

The new, state-of-the-art cancer center should pave the way for future advancements by grouping faculty experts according to their specialty. Thus, surgeons, oncologists and radiologists who focus on a single type of cancer will interact more closely.
