Doerr Donates to Cancer Center

John Doerr has been a backer of health care companies, having invested in WebMD and Drugstore.com. Now he and his wife Ann have personally gotten behind the fight to improve cancer care.

The Kleiner Perkins Caufield & Byers GP and his wife have given an undisclosed amount to the Stanford University Medical Center to establish a directorship at the recently opened Stanford Cancer Center.

Radiation oncologist Dr. Steven Leibel was named the first Ann & John Doerr Medical Director of Stanford Cancer Center, and will spearhead all cancer programs in patient care and clinical research.

The new, state-of-the-art cancer center should pave the way for future advancements by grouping faculty experts according to their specialty. Thus, surgeons, oncologists and radiologists who focus on a single type of cancer will interact more closely.
