Emerging Manager Roundup: Riverwood, LKCM, Tritium, Owl and more

Emerging managers continue a strong 2019 with more than $3.9 billion in fundraising the past few weeks. Seven private equity firms and two venture capital firms raised over $100 million.

One PE firm crossed the billion-dollar threshold. Riverwood Capital raised over $1 billion for its third flagship.

LKCM Headwater of Texas raised the second highest total at $512 million for its third flagship.

Not far behind was Tritium Partners. The firm closed its sophomore fund at $465 million, 24 percent above its initial target of $375 million.

On the venture front, Owl Ventures raised the most. Its third flagship raised more than $315 million.

Below is a rundown of the most significant emerging PE and venture funds that Buyouts has identified as being in the market over the past few weeks:

Private Equity:

Asterion Industrial Partners was founded by Jesus Olmos, former co-head of global infrastructure at KKR in London. It focuses on infrastructure investments in Europe. Its first fund raised more than $360 million of a targeted $968 million.

Anacapa Partners looks for stable companies within growing industries. Its raised over $78 million for its third flagship.

LKCM Headwater invests within the industrial, manufacturing, energy, financial and healthcare sectors. Its third flagship raised more than $512 million.

Napier Park Financial Partners invests exclusively in high growth companies in FinTech. Its third NP Railcar Investments fund raised $69.5 million.

North Castle Partners focuses within the healthy, active and sustainable living markets. Its first co-investment fund raised $80 million.

Riverwood Capital invests in technology and technology-related businesses. Its third flagship raised more than $1 billion.

Square Mile Capital provides flexible debt and equity solutions. Its sophomore fund raised over $386 million.

Tritium Partners focuses on buyouts of growth companies in the lower-middle market. Its second fund hit its hard cap of $465 million.

Vinci Partners focuses on growth-equity opportunities across retail insurance, transportation, education and construction. Its current fund raised $5 million.

Warren Equity Partners was formed by several executives from Pegasus Capital Advisors. It invests in North American industrial, infrastructure and business services sectors. It closed its sophomore fund on its $310 million hard cap.

Venture Capital:

Altitude Ventures provides early-stage financing to healthcare services and technology startups. Its third fund raised $50 million.

Bios Partners focuses on innovative early- and growth-stage biotech and medical-device companies. Its first co-investment fund raised $750,000 of a targeted $3 million.

Blue Lagoon Capital is an early-stage venture firm. Its sophomore fund raised over $52 million.

First Leaf Capital invests in startups, makes loans to small-business owners and does micro-PE transactions. Its sophomore fund closed at $4 million.

Greenspring Associates invests in established and emerging venture fund managers, and across the life cycles of venture-backed companies. Its early-stage fund closed at more than $35 million.

Leawood VC makes early- and expansion-stage investments in founders developing disruptive and scalable technologies. Its sophomore fund raised more than $5 million.

Owl Ventures invests in the world’s leading education technology companies. Its third fund raised more than $315 million.

PICO Partners looks to invest in scalable, future-defining companies and entrepreneurs with a focus on technology. Its sophomore fund raised over $62 million.

Satwik Ventures provides Regulation A+ funding for pre-public firms that have revenue and are seeking growth capital. Its sophomore fund raised over $1 million of a targeted $10 million.

SustainVC’s goal is to return measurable social and environmental impact as well as market-rate financial returns. Its second impact fund raised more than $11 million of a targeted $25 million.

Ubiquity Ventures provides seed capital for smart hardware, machine learning and platforms. Its debut fund raised more than $29 million.

VentureSouth develops and manages angel groups and funds across the Southeast U.S. It’s raised more than $1.2 million for its third angel fund.

Vertex Ventures seeks founders who want to tackle fundamental challenges. Its sophomore collaborators fund raised more than $7 million.

Viola Group focuses on bridging the gap between financial institutions and innovative startups. Its debut fintech fund raised more than $106 million.
