Ex-Evercore secondaries exec joins Credit Suisse

  • Shamsi spent 4 years in secondary advisory at Evercore
  • Previously worked at UBS
  • Secondary advisory in Americas led by Chris Areson

Sameer Shamsi, a former secondary advisory executive at Evercore, joined the secondary team at Credit Suisse, a spokeswoman confirmed.

Shamsi started as a director on the team Dec. 5, the spokeswoman said.

He worked at Evercore from 2013 to last year. He was a director in secondary advisory at UBS from 2010 to 2013, his LinkedIn profile shows.

Earlier in his career, Shamsi worked as an associate at Credit Suisse from 2006 to 2008.

The secondary advisory team is part of Credit Suisse Asset Management’s Private Fund Group. Secondary advisory is led by Chris Areson for the Americas and Jonathan Abecassis for emerging markets, Europe and Asia. The overall private fund group is led by Kevin Naughton and Michael Murphy.

Credit Suisse is one of several secondary advisers fighting for market share in the increasingly active market. Most advisers like CS, Evercore, UBS, Park Hill Group, Greenhill Cogent and Campbell Lutyens, help broker traditional LP stake sales as well as GP-led transactions that seek to deliver liquidity to LPs in older funds.

On a preliminary basis, Credit Suisse believes total secondary volume in 2017 was close to, or exceeded, a record level.
