Elevation hires Tevanian

Avie Tevanian

has joined Elevation Partners as a managing director. He previously was chief software technology officer with Apple, and before that was vice president of software engineering for NeXT Computer.

Macquarie goes with Green

Bill Green

has joined Macquarie Group as a senior managing director and head of renewable energy infrastructure investments in North America. He previously was with VantagePoint Venture Partners, where he co-founded the firm’s cleantech practice.

New York Life hires Barrack

Robert Barrack

has joined New York Life Capital Partners as a managing director and COO. He has spent the past 12 years with The Blackstone Group, most recently as a managing director of business development and investor relations.

Greylock promotes two

Greylock Partners has promoted Isaac Fehrenbach and David Thacker to the position of associate partners. Fehrenbach joined the firm in 2003 and focuses on cleantech investments. Thacker joined in 2008 and focuses on consumer and enterprise technology opportunities.

Point Judith appoints Eisenstein

Jim Eisenstein

has joined Point Judith Capital as a venture partner. He previously was CEO of VC-backed wireless tower company OptaSite, which was acquired by SBA Communications in 2008 for $430 million.

VC Minick named CEO of BIND

Scott Minick has stepped down as a managing director with Arch Venture Partners to become president and CEO of Arch portfolio company BIND Biosciences. His appointment comes soon after BIND raised $11 million in third round funding from Arch, Flagship Ventures, NanoDimension AG and Polaris Venture Partners.

Pappas taps Grey

Michael Grey

has been named a venture partner with Pappas Ventures. Grey has served as a member of the firm’s scientific advisory board for the past six years, and he has served as CEO of Auspex Pharmaceuticals, SGX Pharmaceuticals (which was acquired by Eli Lilly) and Trega Biosciences (acquired by Lion Bioscience).

NEA names Nayeem principal


New Enterprise Associates
has promoted Sara Nayeem from senior associate to principal. She joined the firm last year to focus on biopharmaceutical investments, after having been an associate with Merrill Lynch’s Global Healthcare Group.

Originate promotes Bieber

Originate Ventures has promoted Matt Bieber to principal. He joined the firm in May 2007 as a senior associate, after having worked at Bear Stearns.

Owayda heads to Siguler Guff

Solomon Owayda has joined Siguler Guff as a managing director. He previously was CIO at SVG Advisers, and before that oversaw private equity investments for the California State Teachers’ Retirement System.

Dubar branches out to Arboretum

George Dunbar

has joined Ann Arbor, Mich.-based Arboretum Ventures as a venture partner. Last month he stepped down as president and CEO of stem cell company Aastrom Biosciences Inc. (Nasdaq: ASTM).

Deulina becomes director at First Reserve

First Reserve Corp., a private equity firm focused on the energy sector, has promoted Anastasia Deulina to director. She joined the firm in 2007, after having served as a vice president with both Goldman Sachs and Merrill Lynch.

Next World hires Kalra

Tarun Kalra has joined Next World Capital as a senior associate. He previously was with Battery Ventures. Next World is a $200 million evergreen fund that invests across the venture lifecycle in software, business services, Internet and cleantech companies. The firm has offices in San Francisco and Brussels.
