Shannon leaves Atlas for Firelake

Peter Shannon has agreed to join Firelake Capital as a partner. He previously was a cleantech-focused principal with Atlas Venture.

He also will switch coasts, relocating to the Bay Area early next year.

“The opportunity to join Firelake and keep focusing on cleantech was something I just couldn’t turn down,” he says.

Prior to joining Atlas, Shannon was vice president of technology at Browz Group, a software-as-a-service developer focused on supply chain compliance, and co-founder of Eye Response Inc., a developer of computer-based eye-tracking products. —Dan Primack

Ex-Metavante exec joins Warburg Pincus

Donald Layden

, former general counsel of Metavante Corp. and president of Metavante International Group, has joined Warburg Pincus as an advisor.

Layden recently helped lead negotiations for Metavante’s $2.94 billion sale to Fidelity National Information Services Inc., but opted against remaining with the merged company.

“I had a great run at Metavante, but I didn’t want to relocate to Jacksonville from Milwaukee,” Layden says. “I’ve known the guys at Warburg Pincus for a long time and think we could do some interesting things together in the transaction data processing space.”

Warburg Pincus had been a 25% shareholder in Metavante prior to the sale, and now holds about an 11% stake in FNIS, which also counts THL Partners as a backer. —Dan Primack

Steinberg heads to Polaris Venture Partners

Jon Steinberg

has joined Polaris Venture Partners as a New York-based executive-in-residence. Steinberg previously was strategic partner development manager for Google’s Small Medium Business Partnerships group.

“I’ll be working to identify new investment opportunities of behalf of the partnership, as well as, working with existing portfolio companies,” he wrote in a message on his blog (www.jonsteinberg.com).

Waltham, Mass.-based Polaris raised $1 billion for its fifth early stage fund, which closed in 2006.

McKay promoted at Granite

Granite Ventures has promoted Chris McKay to managing director. He serves as a director with Arcot Systems, Lucid Imagination, Sendmail and Symplified.

Kohlberg hires Bonnano

Andrew Bonnano

has joined Kohlberg & Co. as managing director of business development. He previously was vice president of business development for American Capital’s New York-based buyouts team.

Mamrak joins Linden

Charlie Mamrak

has joined Chicago-based private equity firm Linden LLC as an operating partner. He previously was CEO of PML Microbiologicals.

Wolfe heads to Benchmark as EIR

Michael Wolfe

has rejoined Benchmark Capital as an entrepreneur-in-residence. His last Benchmark-backed company was Vontu, which was acquired by Symantec in 2007.
