Symantec buys SwapDrive for $124MSymantec Corp. has acquired SwapDrive Inc., a Washington, D.C.-based provider of Web-based storage solutions. The deal was valued at $124 million. SwapDrive raised about $9 million in VC funding between 2000 and 2006 from Core Capital Partners and Contour Venture Partners.

Tethys acquires Lipomics
Tethys Bioscience, an Emeryville, Calif.-based developer of multi-biomarker technology, has acquired Lipomics Technologies, a West Sacramento, Calif.-based developer of metabolite profiling technology. No financial terms were disclosed. Lipomics had raised an undisclosed amount of funding from such firms as DFJ Frontier. Thethys is also venture-backed, having raised $54 million in total funding from Kleiner Perkins Caufield & Byers, Mohr Davidow Ventures, Intel Capital and DAG Ventures.

Quest captures NetProQuest Software Inc. (Nasdaq: QSFT) has acquired NetPro Computing Inc., a Phoenix-based provider of Microsoft infrastructure optimization solutions. The deal was valued at nearly $79 million in cash. NetPro had raised VC funding from JMI Equity, Kennet Venture Partners, Grayhawk Venture Partners, Novell Ventures, Pinecreek Capital Partners and Diamond Ventures.

Bayer swallows Direvo Biotech
Bayer HealthCare has agreed to acquire Direvo Biotech AG, a Germany-based developer of a protein engineering platform that uses high-throughput technologies for the discovery and optimization of biopharmaceuticals. The deal is valued at about $300 million in cash. Direvo has raised about $42 million in VC funding since 2000 from TVM Capital, Signet Healthcare Partners, Danisco Ventures, Mulligan BioCapital and NRW Bank.

Cookson unit buys Ormecon
Enthrone Inc., a division of Cookson Electronics, has acquired Ormecon GmbH, a German developer of nanoscale conductive polymers. No financial terms were disclosed. Ormecon had raised an undisclosed amount of VC funding from Emerald Technology Ventures, CDP Capital and Future Capital.
