Frog leaps into German biogas

Growth capital investor Frog Capital has invested €3m in agri.capital, a European producer of biogas energy.

Launched in 2004, agri.capital is the largest biogas producer in Europe. The German-based company employs 130 people and generates €1-2m per year from each of its 46 electricity production sites.

Germany is currently Europe’s largest producer of biogas and with its government biogas targets set for 18% of total energy consumption by 2020, it provides a stable revenue for companies such as agri.capital.

Frog Capital’s Iyad Omari said: “We have watched the biogas segment with keen interest for some time and are delighted to be making an investment in it through agri.capital. It’s a market segment with considerable momentum and great potential.”

London-based Frog Capital has been investing in cleantech companies for the past five years. It typically leads and partners in fundings of €2-20m for expansion capital, minority purchases, management buyouts or acquisitions.
