G. P. Questor Brings On Industrial Partner –

Turnaround specialist Questor Management Co. this month added David Wathen as general partner and principal to the firm.

Wathen most recently was president and group executive at the electrical control products division of Eaton Corp., an industrial engineering company. There he helped to turn around the division’s stagnant businesses.

Questor’s chief operating officer Bob Shields said Wathen’s managerial skills could be put to use toward any of the firm’s deals. Wathen will join the six other principals of the firm-Jay Alix, Henry Druker, Dan Lufkin, Michael Madden, Wallace Rucckel and Shields.

Shields said Questor had been searching for a new principal with extensive general manager experience in industrial companies since before the firm’s second fund closed in January 1999.

“David brings a richness of experience in operating and being a general manager of many industrial businesses,” Shields said.

“We believe the kind of turnaround investing we do requires somebody who can work with the presidents of our portfolio companies to help them implement a turnaround or improvement plan based on the income statement.”

Shields said Questor selected Wathen because of his extensive operational background. “He came up through the training ground of several U.S. companies that are always in the top 10 of the best managed companies.”

Wathen had stints at General Electric Co., Allied Signal and Emerson Electric Co.,” Shields said.
