Georgetown endowment hires former SBIA executive for private markets

Kristi Craig joins Georgetown University’s $1.14 billion endowment

Craig to oversee PE and real assets investments

Executive replaces Christine Kelleher, who left earlier this year

Fortune magazine had earlier reported Craig’s hiring.

Craig will be overseeing the private markets portfolio, which includes private equity and real assets (real estate, energy infrastructure and oil and gas investments), she told peHUB.

Prior to Georgetown, Craig worked at the SBIA, which she joined in 2011 as senior vice president of business development. SBIA is a trade association for lower middle-market funds and investors.

Before that, Craig was senior investment officer with the Small Business Investment Company program, where she led due diligence and review of more than 200 private equity and mezzanine funds. The SBIC program is a public-private investment fund with more than $8 billion under management, administered by the U.S. Small Business Administration.

Georgetown’s endowment was valued at about $1.14 billion in the fiscal year ending June 30, 2012, according to the endowment’s website. As of May 2012, the endowment’s portfolio allocation breakdown was 50 percent to equity, 20 percent to absolute return and 15 percent each to fixed income and real assets, according to the endowment’s website.

Christine Kelleher, senior investment officer, left the endowment earlier this year to join placement agent Avec Capital.
