Highly commended Royal Bank of Scotland

Highly commended in this category is Royal Bank of Scotland, which in 2001 underwrote over EURO500 million mezzanine finance in 34 transactions across Europe. Of this total around 53 per cent of the deals were arranged by continental European offices. RBS Mezzanine provides pan-European mezzanine financing as part of a one-stop shop leveraged financing package with senior debt facilities. Landmark deals include the GBP180 million secondary buyout of Wightlink for which the bank was lead arranger on a GBP21 million mezzanine and equity financing package. The bank was also lead arranger of GBP25 million mezzanine facilities in the MBO of Craegmoor Healthcare and GBP65 million mezzanine facilities in the acquisition of Doncasters. RBS Mezzanine was also joint lead arranger of EURO400 million mezzanine financing for the Messer Griesheim buyout.
