The Washington, D.C.-based shop has raised $10.3 billion altogether and is well on its way to reach a $12 billion target. Other notable firms that raised capital between August 5 and August 23 were Crescent Capital Group, Silver Lake Partners and New Mountain Capital.

On the deals side, Thomson Reuters, the publisher of Buyouts, counted 65 deals from August 5 to August 23 that had U.S.-based financial sponsor involvement, including 10 with reported terms. Deal volume for the year climbed to about $81 billion. This figure is much larger than the $53.1 billion reported this time last year.

The latest period’s largest deal came from Bowie Resource Partners, a joint venture between Bowie Resources and Galena Private Equity Resource Fund, which completed a tender offer to acquire Canyon Fuel Co. The purchase of the Midvale, Utah-based coal mining company from Arch Coal Inc had a deal value of $435 million.
