New appts at Lehman Bros

Lehman Brothers has appointed Javier Bañón as a managing director and co-head of the European merchant banking group. Bañón joins from DB Capital Partners where he was responsible for private equity investments in Latin America for Deutsche Bank and third party capital. Bañón will be working alongside Joe Cohen, a principal and

co-head of Lehman Brothers’ European merchant banking group, which he joined in 1996. Bañón and Cohen report directly to Charles Ayres, global head of merchant banking.

Bañón was a managing director at DB Capital Partners for six years. Prior to that he was the CFO for the industrial division of International Fierro Group, a private company with industrial and financial operations throughout Spain, the US and Latin America. Bañón will be based in London.

Murat Erkurt joins the bank as an executive director. Erkurt has been with Lehman Brothers for nine years, previously as head of the firm’s European venture capital group, before which he was in the merchant banking group based in New York.

ICG non-exec Intermediate Capital Group has appointed Dr Martin Kohlhaussen as a non-executive director.

Kohlhaussen was chairman of the board of managing directors of Commerzbank AG from 1991 to 2001. He is currently chairman of the supervisory board of Commerzbank and is also a member of the supervisory board of a number of other leading German companies, including Bayer AG, Schering AG and Thyssen Krupp AG.
