Nordic names German head

Stockholm-headquartered Nordic Capital has hired Sönke Bästlein as a partner with responsibility for the German speaking countries, and will be based in the firm’s soon to be opened Frankfurt office.

Bästlein started his career with McKinsey & Company in 1991 after five years in international plant contracting with Uhde GmbH. Sönke was McKinsey’s Frankfurt office manager from 1998 until he founded the firm’s European Asia house in 2004. In addition, he led the private equity practice in Germany.

Nordic Capital’s decision to open in Germany is predicated on similarities between the Nordic and German markets – both export oriented, similar cultural environment, and the firm has already completed a number of large add-on acquisitions in the German market such as Altana and Dynamit Nobel Kunstoff.

Bästlein will start his position on August 1, and will be supported by director Adam Samuelsson relocating from Stockholm.
