Nottingham backs life sciences

BioCity Nottingham, a provider of finance and laboratory facilities to bioscience companies, has launched The Mobius Life Sciences Fund.

The fund, said to be the first investment fund dedicated to the Midlands region, will provide equity for early stage bioscience, pharmaceutical, medical technology and healthcare businesses.

The Mobius fund leverages early stage investment through Nottingham City Council which provides unsecured loan finance to investees.

The fund is structured with a board and the Mobius Life Science Investment Panel. It will take a seat in its investments and successful applicants will have access to the panel members and non-executive directors.

Panel chair and founder of Marcus Venture Consulting, Lucy P Marcus said: “The fund is deliberately designed to be self-sustaining. Already we are seeing some business plans with a great deal of potential. I look forward to helping the Mobius Life Science Fund develop relationships with other life science private venture funds.”
