On the Move 9.10.18: CalPERS names new CFO

PRIVATE EQUITY FIRMS

Silver Lake: Seth Waugh was named CEO of PGA of America. Waugh was a senior adviser and managing director at Silver Lake and will continue as a senior adviser to the firm.

Brynwood Partners named John LeBoutillier a managing director. He had been president and CEO of Harvest Hill Beverage Co, a portfolio company of Brynwood. Prior to Harvest Hill, LeBoutillier held senior management roles at Kraft Foods and was president of Unilever Canada.

Sumeru Equity Partners: Joining are Ben Cox and Faton Gjuka as operating principals, Michelle Ruggeri as controller and Maddison Smith and Nathan Stanley as investment associates.

Altas Partners, the Canadian PE firm, appointed Dominic Barton to its advisory board. Barton is a senior partner and global managing partner emeritus at McKinsey & Co.

Atlantic Street Capital, a PE firm focused on the middle market, added seven operating partners: Patrick Jones, Rizwan Khan, Roy Serpa, Katie Sick, Susan Stautberg, Tim Sutton and Tammie Valentini.

Gridiron Capital hired Mario Masrieh as a vice president after he earned his MBA from Columbia Business School. Masrieh worked at Gridiron was an associate from 2014 to 2016. Masrieh began his career at Morgan Stanley in the investment banking division.

Blue Sage Capital added David Berry and Blake Jones as associates to its investment team. Prior to joining the Austin investment firm, Berry was an investment professional at ITE Management while Jones was an analyst in the leveraged-finance investment-banking group at B of A Merrill Lynch.

Gallant Capital Partners, launched by two former Gores Group executives, hired Desmond Nugent as partner and head of operations. Nugent had been a managing director at OpenGate Capital, prior to which he was a principal at Gores Group. Gallant also hired former EQT executive Chris Suen and Amish Tolia, former head of sales and business development at Peloton Document Solutions, as vice presidents, and Justin Shand and Jonathan Ramirez as associates.

Blue Wolf Capital Partners: Joining as operating partners are Alice Mann, Richard Kobor, Don Armstrong and Tom Tomlinson.

Wynnchurch Capital hired Michael MacKay as a senior associate. MacKay had been a senior associate at Pritzker Group Private Capital.

Borgman Capital, the Milwaukee middle-market PE firm, named Jeffrey Germanotta a managing director. He is a former principal and managing director at William Blair.

PORTFOLIO COMPANIES

ArbiterSports, the Sandy, Utah, provider of athletic management software, named Karen Mogridge vice president of product management. She previously worked at CoreLogic. ArbiterSports is backed by Serent Capital.

Shari’s Restaurants, the Beaverton, Oregon, family restaurant chain, named Joan Hansen director of marketing. She most recently worked at Marie Callender’s Restaurant & Bakery. Shari’s is backed by CapitalSpring.

Enstor Gas, backed by ArcLight Capital Partners, named Paul W. Bieniawski CEO. Enstor also appointed Masoud J. Kasraianas president and chief commercial officer. The Houston company owns and operates underground natural-gas-storage facilities in the Gulf Coast and the Southwest U.S.

BTI Studios, a portfolio company of Shamrock Capital, named Shaun Gregory CEO. Gregory had been CEO of Exterion Media.

George Industries, a portfolio company of Orangewood Partners, appointed Jon Cohen president. Cohen’s background includes senior leadership and operational roles at a number of companies, including Lockheed Martin. George is the Endicott, New York, maker of engineered aerospace, defense and industrial components.

TruGreen, the lawn-care company, named John Cowles president and CEO. Cowles previously was president and CEO at FXI. TruGreen is backed by Clayton, Dubilier & Rice.

SERVICE PROVIDERS

Partners Group: David Layton will succeed Christoph Rubeli as co-CEO on Jan. 1. Layton will join André Frei, who has been co-CEO since 2013. Rubeli will also step down from Partners Group’s executive committee and global executive board but will remain a partner of the firm.

Amherst Partners: Ray Dallavecchia Jr joins the firm as an operating partner. He is currently a partner at Venetian Associates, a Michigan family office focused on lower-middle-market consumer-products companies.

Madison Street Capital, the Chicago middle-market investment bank, named Lawrence Alioto a managing director for its capital-markets team. Alioto was a founding principal and former president of VeriTainer Corp.

Three Mile Capital: Managing Director David Tanner joins the board of White Mountains Insurance Group, the Bermuda financial-services holding company.

Atomic Capital, a blockchain, fintech and investment firm, named Peter Lyons chief innovation officer. Lyons previously was partnership-development lead at the World Economic Forum.

Sun Life Investment Management named Tom Murphy head of affiliate development and business strategy. Murphy’s background includes building Mercer‘s European outsourced chief investment officer business.

Accordion, the PE-focused financial consulting and technology firm, hired Tiberius Vadan as managing director, based in New York. Vadan’s background includes partner at KPMG and senior director at Alvarez & Marsal.

Great Rock Capital hired Jeffrey Peckitt as managing director of originations. Based in Toronto, Peckitt will be in charge of sourcing new investment opportunities to expand the firm’s presence in Canada. He previously was vice president at MaynBridge Capital, spearheading originations to middle-market companies throughout Canada.

Chertoff Group, the security-advisory firm, named Kristjan Kornmayer director of M&A advisory services. Kornmayer had been a senior engagement manager at Avascent.

Condon Tobin Sladek Thornton named M&A lawyer Mark Goglia a partner at the business law firm. Goglia is a former partner at Jones Day.

Perkins Coie named R. Bruce Steinert Jr a partner in the law firm’s M&A and PE practice. Steinert previously was a shareholder at Greenberg Traurig and a partner at Kirkland & Ellis. And the firm named Matt Oshinky a partner for its emerging companies and venture capital practice. He previously was a partner at DLA Piper.

LIMITED PARTNERS

California Public Employees’ Retirement System hired Michael Cohen as chief financial officer. Cohen previously was a director at California Department of Finance.

Montana Board of Investments chose the state budget director, Dan Villa, to succeed Executive Director David Ewer, who is retiring Oct. 1.

PROMOTIONS

Paragon Bioservices, the Baltimore producer of biopharmaceuticals and vaccines, promoted Deborah Wild to senior vice president, quality, validation and regulatory affairs and Ruby Hofmann to senior vice president, human resources and organizational development. Paragon is backed by NewSpring Capital and Camden Partners.

Trinity Hunt Partners promoted Cheryl Small to chief financial officer and John Oakes to senior associate. Prior to joining the Dallas PE firm, Small was director of internal control and compliance at IESI Corp. Oakes worked in Credit Suisse‘s investment-banking division.

Lariat Partners promoted Josh Sartisky to vice president. Prior to joining the Denver private equity firm, he was an associate at Grey Mountain Partners.
