On the move, 9.26.2016 – Carlyle bolsters senior team

PRIVATE EQUITY FIRMS

Adams Street Partners beefed up its private-credit team with four new additions. Joining are Frederick Chung as a principal, Thomas Petty as a senior associate and Michael Allen and Emily Shiau as associates. Previously, Chung was a vice president at Goldman Sachs, Petty was an associate at Morgan Stanley and Allen and Shiau were analysts at J.P. Morgan Chase and Alvarez & Marsal, respectively.

Ares Management: Boris Okuliar, a former UBS banker who was hired by Carlyle Group in 2014 to bolster its credit investments unit, left to join Ares in London. Okuliar will be a partner focused on the alternative-asset manager’s European credit business.

Atlantic Street Capital named George Parry and M. Kurt Lentz  principals and Sarah Robson vice president of business development. Parry most recently was a vice president at Corinthian Capital while Lentz was a principal at Sun Capital Partners and Robson was a director at Axial.

Carlyle Group named Brian Wilson a senior adviser to the Asia buyout team. He’s based in Sydney. Wilson is currently chairman of Australia’s Foreign Investment Review Board and a member of the Payments System Board of the Reserve Bank of Australia.

Carlyle also named Daniel Yergin a senior adviser. Yergin founded Cambridge Energy Research Associates, now part of IHS Markit. He is also a director of the Council on Foreign Relations and is the author of several bestselling books including “The Prize: The Epic Quest for Oil Money and Power,” which won the Pulitzer Prize.

Castanea Partners hired Tom First as an operating partner. First previously was a managing partner at First Beverage Ventures.

Causeway Capital Management appointed Curtis M. Krause  director of global institutional sales and marketing. Krause had been vice president of business development at AQR Capital Management.

Cimbria Capital hired Martin D. Beirne III as an operating partner. Beirne is former president and CEO of Green Earth Fuels.

Cimbria Capital named J. Julian Smith an operating partner. Smith currently is president of CZO Agronomics. He is also former director of discovery and innovation for Brandt Consolidated Inc.

Frazier Healthcare Partners said Brock Hardaway joined the firm as an operating partner on the growth buyout team. Hardaway most recently was CEO of Millennium Health.

HCAP Partners named Nicolas Lopez principal. Lopez joined the firm in June 2013. Prior to HCAP, Lopez worked in Best Buy’s corporate-development group.

IFM Investors hired Joe Tremblay and Dan Kim as business-development directors in North America. Previously, Tremblay was director of marketing at Talara Capital Management while Kim is a former associate partner for Aon Hewitt Investment Consulting’s global PE and infrastructure group.

Leerink Transformation Partners hired Vinay Shah as a vice president. Previously, Shah was a senior analyst at Longitude Capital.

Mainsail Partners added Stephanie Gaufin and Sandy McKinnon to its investment team while Emily Azevedo and Kate Hopkins have joined the operations team.

Monomoy Capital Partners appointed John Stewart a partner while Jaime McKenzie and Scot Duncan become directors. Stewart joined the middle-market PE firm in 2007 while McKenzie and Duncan came on board in 2008.

MidOcean Partners hired Spencer Potts as head of business development and Ruth Lane as head of investor relations. They previously held the same respective titles at CIFC.

Paine & Partners named G. David Delaney a strategic adviser. Delaney is former executive vice president and chief operating officer of Potash Corp.

Pegasus Capital Advisors tapped Thomas Emmons to focus on mezzanine capital in the renewable-energy and clean-infrastructure industries. Emmons’s resume includes posts at Rabobank and HSH Nordbank.

Platte River Equity hired James “J.B.” Moore as a vice president, while Tarun Kanthety and Brian Hopkin joined as associates.

Riordan Lewis & Haden hired Navid Gharavi and Stefan Jensen as vice presidents.

Riverside Co named Hunter Peterson a partner. Peterson joins from Trinity Hunt Partners.

TPG Capital hired Jack Daly as a partner. Daly previously was a partner and managing director in the principal investment area division of Goldman Sachs.

TPG Growth tapped Mark Grabowski as a partner. Grabowski previously was a managing director at L Catterton.

Water Street Healthcare Partners appointed Nicklaus Daley vice president. Previously, Daley was an associate at CIVC Partners.

PORTFOLIO COMPANIES

Caligor, a portfolio company of Diversis Capital, named Alex Shvartsburg chief financial officer and chief operating officer. Previously, Shvartsburg was vice president of finance of the genetic, medical and applied sciences division at Thermo Fisher Scientific. Caligor provides clinical-trial supply and logistics services to the pharmaceutical and biotechnology sectors.

Opus Global, the Palo Alto, California, compliance-platform provider, named Emanuele Conti CEO. Conti previously was CEO of Kroll Inc. Opus Global was co-founded by GTCR.

Questex, the Newton, Massachusetts, business-information and events company, hired Francis B. Barker as chief financial officer. Barker’s resume includes the post of managing director for media and information investments at Carlyle Group. Questex is a portfolio company of Shamrock Capital Advisors.

Shape Technologies Group, a portfolio company of American Industrial Partners, named James Jenson president of its Component Shaping Group. Jenson most recently served as a senior vice president and general manager of the Metal-Organic Chemical Vapor Deposition unit of Veeco Instruments. Shape Kent, Washington, provides waterjet technology and ultrahigh-pressure manufacturing process solutions.

Telarix Inc, the Vienna, Virginia, provider of solutions for communication-service providers, appointed Marco Limena CEO. Limena is former president and CEO of Sylantro Systems. Telarix is owned by Vista Equity Partners.

True Food Kitchen, to be spun off by Fox Restaurant Concepts next year, named Christine Barone CEO. Previously, Barone was senior vice president of food, evenings and licensed stores at Starbucks. True Food is backed by Centerbridge Partners.

Vertafore, which is backed by Bain Capital Private Equity and Vista Equity Partners, tapped Amy Zupon as CEO. She joins from P2 Energy Solutions, where she was CEO.

SERVICE PROVIDERS

Baird hired Christoper Wofford as a managing director. He’ll oversee the financial-services firm’s investment-banking coverage of the transportation and logistics sector. Previously, Wofford was a managing director and head of the transportation, logistics and supply-chain practice at Macquarie Capital.

Duff & Phelps’s Pagemill Partners appointed Rory O’Sullivan a managing director and head of European technology M&A. Sullivan, who will be based in London, joins from Bulger Partners.

Houlihan Lokey appointed Joseph Mooney a managing director for the M&A group. Mooney most recently was head of M&A at Sagent Advisors.

Park Madison Partners rehired Rob Kohn as an equity partner. Kohn had been with Akridge.

Piper Jaffray Cos named Scott J.R. Smith a managing director in its investment banking financial sponsor coverage group. Smith joins from Lazard Ltd.

Privakey, a provider of digital identity and authentication solutions, named Pamela Strisofsky to the board. Strisofsky currently serves as an adviser to Guardian Capital Partners, Madison Bay Partners, MVS Management and WealthForge. She is the former CFO of EnerTech Capital Partners.

Raymond James hired John Roddy as managing director and co-head of its financial services and investment banking group. Roddy joins from Macquarie Group, where he most recently was global head of Macquarie Capital’s financial institutions group.

RueOne Investments appointed Brian Lasher chief investment officer. Previously, Lasher was a principal at Federal Street Partners.

Tyton PartnersRich Flynn joins the senior leadership as a managing director in the investment-banking practice. Flynn joins from Apollo Education Group, where he served as president of Apollo Education Ventures and head of U.S. corporate development.

Symmetry Partners hired Timothy Baker as director of product strategy. Baker joins from BlackRock. The investment adviser also added Eric Krusiewicz as senior investment strategist and Bob Matala, Michael Jordan and Nathaniel Poole as regional business consultants.

TIMIA Capital Corp appointed Andrew Abouchar executive vice president of underwriting. Abouchar is a co-founder and partner at Tech Capital Partners, the Waterloo, Ontario, venture capital firm.

Wells Fargo Securities appointed David DeNunzio head of its global M&A group. DeNunzio had served as global chairman of Credit Suisse‘s M&A group.

LIMITED PARTNERS

Canada Pension Plan Investment Board made three senior executive appointments: Graeme Eadie becomes senior managing director and global head of real assets; Shane Feeney is now senior managing director and global head of private investments; and Ryan Selwood was named managing director and head of direct PE. Eadie joined CPPIB in 2005, Feeney was hired in 2010 and Selwood joined in 2006.

PROMOTIONS

B. Riley & Co promoted Andy Moore to president. Prior to joining B. Riley in 2006, Moore worked at Roth Capital Partners and Bear Stearns & Co.

Fengate Capital Management promoted Pranav Pandya to chief financial officer.

Lime Rock, the energy-focused private equity firm, promoted James Wallis to managing director and Oliver Phillips to vice president. Wallis joined the firm in 2007 while Phillips came on board in 2011.

Riordan Lewis & Haden promoted Kevin Cantrell and Rob Rodin to managing director.

Riverside Co promoted Meranee Phing and Nick Speer to partner. Phing joined Riverside in 2005 while Speer was hired in 2014.
