On the Move, March 18, 2019: Waud names 4 partners; Francisco taps Karlen and Tolaney

PRIVATE EQUITY FIRMS

Angeles Equity Partners promoted Sameer Patel and Sam Heischuber to principal. Patel joined the private equity firm in 2014 while Heischuber came on board in 2016.

Cimbria Capital named Steve Gluck an operating partner. Gluck for 36 years worked in the analytical sciences, environmental technology and water and process solutions division at Dow Chemical.

Waud Capital Partners, the middle-market PE firm, promoted Justin DuPere, Christopher Graber, Timothy Lawler and Phillip Olson to partner and Kyle Lattner and Paul Sutphin to principal.

Francisco Partners promoted Megan Austin Karlen to partner, capital markets, and Neil Tolaney to partner. The tech-focused PE firm also promoted Evan Daar, Mario Razzini and Christine Wang to principal.

Z Capital named Matthew Kane general counsel, chief compliance officer and a member of the management committee. Kane joined Z Capital as deputy general counsel in 2014.

Oak Hill Capital Partners named Ennio Montinaro chief administrative officer and Todd Cullen a senior adviser and operating consultant. Montinaro previously was a managing director at Nomura and Citi while Cullen was managing director and led the enterprise and customer analytics practice at KPMG.

Carlyle Group: Stacey Dion, a managing director, was promoted to global head of government affairs.

Riata Capital Group: David Parker and Mitchell Wyly were promoted to vice president from senior associate.

Magnetar Capital named Brian Portnoy director of education. He previously was head of investment education at Virtus Investment Partners.

Partners Capital opened a Paris office and named Edmondo Barletta to head it. Barletta previously was client CIO for many of the firm’s private investors and was based in the London office.

VMG Partners promoted Angad Hira to CFO from vice president. Prior to joining VMG in 2010, Hira was an investment banker in UBS Investment Bank’s M&A group.

H.I.G. Capital named Markus Noe-Nordberg a managing director and head of middle-market PE in Europe. He previously was a partner and founding member of Pamplona Capital.

PORTFOLIO COMPANIES

Hallcon, a provider of transportation and mobility services, appointed John R. Stoiber president and CEO. Stoiber had been chief operating officer since 2015. Hallcon’s backers include Novacap Export Development Canada, BMO Capital Partners, Manulife and Investar.

ABC Financial, a software and payment-processing provider for health and fitness clubs, named Bill Davis president. His background includes operational and financial leadership positions at Allscripts Healthcare Solutions, Blackboard and, most recently, Paycor. ABC Financial is a portfolio company of Thoma Bravo.

M Science, a portfolio company of the Leucadia Investments a division of Jefferies Financial Group, named Gerard Varjacques global head of sales. He previously ran global sales for ICAP, now Nex, and was chief operating officer of Traiana.

Z-Medica, a provider of hemostatic devices, appointed Vinod Thourani to the board. Thourani, a cardiothoracic surgeon, is professor of surgery at Georgetown University School of Medicine and chairman of cardiac surgery for MedStar Heart & Vascular Institute. Z-Medica is a portfolio company of Linden Capital Partners.

Milani Cosmetics, a portfolio company of Gryphon Investors, named David M. Berk CFO. Berk for the past 15 years has held senior positions at divisions of L’Oreal USA.

3 Kings Entertainment, the Los Angeles broadcasting talent agency, hired Mike Isenberg as VP talent development. Isenberg’s background includes 10 years at ESPN as well as 10 years at Fox Sports Detroit. 3 Kings is a portfolio company of Blue Equity.

EnsembleIQ, a portfolio company of RFE Investment Partners, named Ann Jadown chief HR officer. Jadown previously led a team of 1,300 employees across 15 locations for Mario Tricoci Hair Salons & Day Spas. EnsembleIQ is a business intelligence resource.

Clinical Innovations, an EQT portfolio company, hired Jason Whetstone as VP human resources. His resume includes HR positions at Polaris Industries and General Mills.

NorthStar Midstream, a midstream-services company backed by Oaktree Capital Management, named Mac Hummel CEO. He previously was EVP at EnLink Midstream and president of the liquids business unit.

SERVICE PROVIDERS

StepStone Group, a private markets specialist, named five new partners: Michael Cronin, PE team, London; Geoffrey Dolan, PE team, New York; Vincent Hsu, PE team, Beijing; Aiyu Nicholson, PE team, New York, and Christable Yau, investor relations team, New York.

RMB Capital opened an office in southwest Michigan. Chris Tarkowsky, a former U.S. Marine, joined the office as a vice president and wealth adviser.

Liquidnet, an institutional investment network, named Brian Conroy president. Conroy had been president at Fidelity International in London.

Houlihan Lokey, an investment bank, named Mark Mikullitz a managing director in its M&A group. He previously was head of activism and contested situations in the M&A group at Deutsche Bank.

Baird promoted eight members of its global investment banking group to managing director: Alex Ballantine, global industrial team, London; Brian Cole, global technology and services team, Milwaukee; Ryan Engelhardt, equity capital markets team, Milwaukee; Jon Fitzsimmons, global industrial team, Milwaukee, Matt Kessler, global technology and services team, San Francisco; Martin Luen, global technology and services team, London; John Sun, global technology and services team, London, and James Weck, global healthcare team, Chicago.

Evercore: Greg Melich rejoined ISIs research team as a senior managing director. Melich previously led the multichannel retail business at MoffettNathanson.

American Triple I Partners, the New York infrastructure-investment firm, named Henry Cisneros, who is a former secretary of HUD, chairman and co-chief investment officer. The firm was launched by principals of investment bank Siebert Cisneros Shank. American Triple I will invest mostly in transportation, knowledge and information systems, and smart city projects.

Duff & Phelps named Sam Wright a managing director in its transaction-advisory-services practice in New York. Wright previously was co-leader of CBIZ MHM’s TAS practice.

AllianceBernstein named Lindsey Serrate global tax director. Serrate joins from True Partners Consulting.

Mintz added Loretta Shaw-Lorello to the law firm’s corporate practice as a member. She previously was vice chair of the private-funds practice at Covington & Burling as well as a partner in the firm’s PE practice.
