Soyna Brown has joined Summit Partners as a vice president in their Boston office. Previously, Brown held several positions at iXL Enterprises, including vice president of finance, vice president of corporate development, and was involved in the formation of iXL Ventures.

J. Scott Carter has joined Summitis Palo Alto, Calif., office as a vice president. Carter worked at JPMorgan where he focused on investment banking for technology, media and telecommunications companies, as well as acquisition financing opportunities for financial sponsors.

Additionally, Jeffrey Staley has joined Summitis Palo Alto office as a vice president. Staley previously worked as a financial analyst at U.S. Bancorp Piper Jaffray where he focused on mergers and acquisitions.

Edward Whelan also joined Summitis Boston office as a vice president. Previously he worked in the private equity division of Charlesbank Capital Partners LLC, where he evaluated prospective investments and performed due diligence across numerous industries.

Jay Watkins has been named a managing director with De Novo Ventures, a venture capital firm focused on the life sciences industry. Watkins will be responsible for identifying new investment opportunities in medical technology companies and supporting De Novois current portfolio companies. Most recently, Watkins was a vice president of Guidant Corp. and president of Compass, Guidantis corporate business development and new ventures group.

Harold Kahn has joined Pequot Capital Management Inc. as a principal responsible for all non-investment related activities of Pequot Ventures.

William Walsh has joined Portfolio Advisors LLC as a managing director. For the last eight years, Walsh was the head of private equity fund investments for Deutsche Bank in New York, and was responsible for creating and managing the Bankis third-party client funds business.

Kenneth Wisdom has also joined the firm as a vice president. Wisdom was most recently a founding principal and managing director of PrivateTrade, an advisory firm specializing in the transfer of private equity limited partnership interests.

Additionally, Portfolio Advisors LLC has been selected by the Pennsylvania Public School Employeesi Retirement System (PSERS) to provide investment advisory and administrative services with regard to the Retirement Systemis $6 billion alternative investment portfolio.

Stuart Randle has joined Advanced Technology Ventures as an Entrepreneur-in-Residence in the firmis healthcare practice. Randle is the former CEO of ACT Medical. At his new post, Randle is in charge of identifying, creating and leading a new medical device company as part of ATVis EIR program.
