Ralph Alexander has joined Riverstone Holdings as a managing director. He will be based in New York. Alexander previously served in various positions with BP PLC, including as CEO of both its $20 billion olefins and derivatives subsidiary and of its Gas, Power and Renewables and Solar segment.

John Dominguez and Vincent Williams have joined SVB Capital Partners, the fund management unit of SVB Financial Group (Nasdaq: SIVB). Dominguez will serve as a partner and previously managed the private equity group of Hall Capital Management. Williams previously was senior vice president and managing director of institutional sales for Northern Trust Global Investments.

Laura Garner and Steven Johnson have joined merchant bank Grail Partners as partners. Garner previously was a consultant with ClearBrook Advisors, Concept Capital LLC and Juniper Capital LLC. Johnson was a partner with DLB Capital.

General Atlantic has promoted four professionals to managing director: Raul Rai and Sunish Sharma in Mumbai, Oliver Thum in DĂ¼sseldorf and Sean Tong in Hong Kong. It also has made six promotions to principal: Gabriel Caillaux and Jan Hammer in London; Jan-Daniel Neumann in DĂ¼sseldorf; and Alexander Chulack, Adrianna Ma and Brett Rochkind in the United States.

Golub Capital has promoted Sean Coleman and Stefano Robertson to the position of principal. Coleman is based in New York and originally joined Golub as a vice president after having founded niche merchant bank Commonwealth Principals. Robertson is based in Chicago and had joined Golub after eight years with Antares Capital Corp.

James Hart and Tad Yanagi have joined TA Associates as vice presidents. Hart will work out of TA’s Menlo Park office, and previously was an associate with both Sageview Capital and KKR. Yanagi will be based in Boston, and previously was a senior associate with J.W. Childs Associates

George Haymaker Jr. has joined the advisory board of Genstar Capital. He is the former chairman and CEO of Kaiser Aluminum Corp.

Randy Hicks has joined KPS Capital Partners as a managing director and head of business development. He previously was a senior managing director of origination for FirstLight Financial Corp. The firm also has added Sarah Weintraub as assistant controller, and four new associates: Ryan Baker, Michael Houy, Evan LePatner and Lee Mlotek.

Masao Hirano has agreed to join The Carlyle Group as co-head of its Japan buyout team, effective November 1. He is currently a director with McKinsey & Co., and will be partnered with existing Japan co-head Tamotsu Adachi. In related news, Carlyle said that Takeshi Isayama will become chairman of Carlyle Japan, effective October 1. He has served as vice chairman of Nissan Motors since retiring from the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry.

Houlihan Lokey has named Sandy Purcell and Jean-Florent Rerolle as co-heads of the firm’s European Financial Advisory Services (FAS) practice. Purcell is a managing director in the firm’s London office, and previously headed its Mideast FAS practice. Rerolle is a managing director based in France.

Rahul Jain has joined Core Capital Partners as an associate. He previously served in various marketing, product management and business development roles with 3Com.

Scott Lang has joined City Capital Advisors, a Chicago-based middle-market I-bank formed last year, as a managing director. Lang is the former co-founder and CEO of Brown Gibbons Lang & Company.

Gary Matthews has joined Morgan Stanley Private Equity as a managing director and operating partner. He is a longtime executive with such companies as Simmons Bedding Co., Sleep Innovations, Bristol-Myers Squibb and Derby Cycle Corp.

Benjamin Nummy has joined real estate investment firm Equibase Capital Group as a managing principal. He previously was an executive director in the real estate group of Morgan Stanley.

The Riverside Company said that Andrew Strauss has relinquished his role as co-fund manager of RCAF, which is the firm’s North American flagship fund. He will remain with Riverside as its most senior transacting partner in the New York office. He will be replaced by Suzy Kriscunas, with existing co-fund manager David Gordon remaining in place.

Joseph Shepard has been named director of the Small Business Administration‘s investment office. He previously was a managing director of Archway Capital Management and, before that, was a vice president of Banc One Capital Markets and its SBIC fund.

Brian Siebenburgen has joined Marlin & Associates. He previously was with the financial due diligence group of PricewaterhouseCoopers.

David Tamburri has joined Susquehanna Growth Equity as an entrepreneur-in-residence, with a particular focus on financial and healthcare technology and services companies. He previously was president and chief operating officer of Onward Healthcare Inc., a Welsh Carson Anderson & Stowe portfolio company that offers human capital services to healthcare providers.

Erol Uzumeri has been promoted to head of Teachers Private Capital, the private equity arm of Ontario Teachers’ Pension Plan. He previously had been a vice president responsible for international investments. He succeeds Jim Leach, who is taking over as the pension plan’s CEO.

Vestar Capital Partners has named Kevin Mundt as president of Vestar Resources, the firm’s in-house strategic counsel resource for portfolio company management teams. Mundt joined Vestar Resources in 2004 as a managing director.

Henry Wang has joined Citigroup Global Markets as a vice president in the firm’s Financial Entrepreneurs group. He previously was a vice president with Financial Technology Partners.

Mark Woodward has joined The Blackstone Group as a senior advisor in the firm’s private equity group, focused on software opportunities. He will be based in the Bay Area, and previously was president and CEO of PE-backed Serena Software.
