Adam Applegarth, former CEO of failed U.K. bank Northern Rock, has joined Apollo Management as a senior advisor to the firm’s European fund.

Akhil Awasthi has joined Tata Capital as managing partner of its new private equity fund. He previously was a partner with Baring Private Equity Partners India.

Alvarez & Marsal has added nine senior professionals to its private equity performance improvement unit: Ron Bernard and Stephen Griffin as managing directors in New York and Boston, respectively; Joel Mostrom as a senior director in New York; Paul Kosturos as a director in San Francisco; and Fabiana Fakhoury, Simon Flax, Jeffrey Klein, Jennifer Kim and Daniel Schellenberg as directors in New York. Bernard previously was president of LWB Media Consulting, while Griffin was founder of G5 Capital.

Brian Bode has joined Bell Partners as a senior vice president, with a focus on adding global institutional investors to the company’s existing base of individual investors and joint venture partners. Late last year, Bode stepped down as an executive director with UBS Investment Bank, where he had been a placement agent for private equity real estate funds. Prior to joining UBS in August 2005, Bode had been with Atlantic Pacific Capital.

Intersouth Partners has promoted Katrin Burt and Jimmy Rosen to partner. Burt joined Intersouth as an associate in 2007, and has worked with IT portfolio companies like HexaTech, siXis, Bright Hub and Ziptronix. Rosen also joined in 2007, and has worked with life sciences portfolio companies like ABT Molecular Imaging, Applied Genetic Technologies Corp., Cempra Pharmaceuticals and Viamet Pharmaceuticals.

Saverio Costa has joined Pantheon Ventures as a New York-based principal focused on client services. He previously was with placement agent Benedetto Gartland & Company.

Gareth Davies has joined Greenhill & Co. as a London-based managing director, in the firm’s financing advisory and restructuring practice. He previously was with Close Brothers Corporate Finance.

Brad Edmister has joined Ropes & Gray as a private equity-focused partner in in the law firm’s Tokyo office. He previously was with Milbank, Tweed, Hadley & McCloy’s Tokyo office.

Tom Ehret has joined Advent International as an operating partner, with a focus on the oil and gas services and equipment sector. He previously was CEO of Acergy SA, a global offshore engineering and construction contractors to the oil and gas industry.

Angela Galbraith has joined U.K.-based Inflexion Private Equity as an origination executive. She previously was with KPMG.

Ed Goddard has joined U.K. private equity firm Sovereign Capital, to focus on research and direct origination. He previously was with executive search firm Redgrave Partners.

Tim Harned has joined America’s Growth Capital as a Boston-based partner in the firm’s investment banking group. He previously was head of media and technology I-banking at Capstone Partners.

UBS Investment Bank has formed an 18-person energy lending practice based in Dallas. It will be led by Darrell Holley, who previously was head of global oil and gas banking for Fortis Bank.

Paul Kacik has joined McGladrey Capital Markets as a managing director of its healthcare practice. He previously was a senior VP and head of healthcare I-banking for Barrington Associates.

General Atlantic LLC, a growth equity firm based in Greenwich, Conn., promoted Adrianna Ma to managing director and Jing Hong to principal. Ms. Ma is based in New York and leads GA’s global Energy and Resources effort. Ms. Hong is a senior professional in the firm’s Beijing office and focuses on investments in China.

Marten Mickos, founder and former CEO of MySQL, has joined Benchmark Capital as an entrepreneur-in-residence. Following Sun Microsystems’ acquisition of MySQL in early 2008 for approximately $1 billion, Mickos spent one year as senior vice president of Sun’s database group.

Richard Ross has joined law firm Chadbourne & Parke LLP as counsel in the corporate practice. He previously was a vice president and assistant general counsel in Goldman Sachs’s merchant banking legal group.

William Rulon-Miller has joined Cross Atlantic Capital Partners as a partner and managing director. He previously was co-head of investment banking at Janney Montgomery Scott in Philadelphia.

Arun Sarin, former CEO of Vodafone PLC, has rejoined Kohlberg Kravis Roberts & Co. as a senior advisor. There had been reports late last year that Sarin turned down an offer to become CEO of Yahoo.

Vikas Tandon has joined institutional broker-dealer BTIG as managing director and head of high yield and distressed analytics. Tandon previously worked in the global fixed income group at Joshua Tree Capital Management, a distressed fund focused on illiquid securities.

Nixon Peabody LLP has named Philip Taub as chair of the law firm’s business and financial services departments. He previously ran the M&A and private transaction groups.

David Pommerening has joined law firm Baker Botts as a partner in the firm’s Washington D.C. office, where he will lead the office’s corporate transactions practice. He previously was a partner with O’Melveny & Myers LLP.

Fifth Street Finance Corp. (NYSE:FSC) has fired four new team members to its Investment Advisery arm, Fifth Street Management LLC, and promoted Stacey Thorne to Director of Investor Relations. The new hires are Vice President Lawrence Beller, previously an executive director at JP Morgan’s CDO Structuring and Execution group; Vice President David Harrison, previously an attorney with Dewey & LeBeouf LLP; Analyst Lee Haspel, previously with Twin Capital Management; and Executive Assistant Danielle Presta, previously a trading assistant at First Commercial Credit Corp.

Zhu Wei, a senior managing director of CVC Capital Partners, has resigned from the private equity firm to join Asia-focused bank Standard Chartered.

Joel Wheeler has joined the London office of law firm Crowell & Moring as a partner in the firm’s corporate group. He previously was with Debevoise & Plimpton.

Owen Wilson has joined Palamon Capital Partners, a European mid-market private equity firm, as a vice president. Wilson was previously director of Candover‘s London office.
