Wael Aburida has joined San Francisco-based Nollenberger Capital Partners as a managing director of technology I-banking. He previously was a managing director with Douglas, Curtis & Allyn and, before that, was director of M&A for Intel Corp.

Alan Bear and David Wherritt have joined Probitas Partners, with a focus on real estate fund placement. Bear will serve as a principal, and previously ran his own transactional and strategic investment advisory. Wherritt comes aboard as an associate, and previously was an analyst in the real estate private funds group of Credit Suisse.

Chris Coonfield and Reid Strand have joined GulfStar Group as analysts in the firm’s Houston, Texas office. Coonfield previously was an equity research analyst for Simmons & Co., where he covered small-to-mid-cap oilfield services companies. Strand had worked in the corporate development group of Oil States International Inc.

Paige Daly has left Apax Partners, where she had been a New York-based partner in the firm’s retail and consumer group.

Mark Evans has joined Hartford, Conn.-based private equity firm Smith Whiley & Co. He previously was been with such firms as Great Hill Partners, M/C Partners and Translations Capital.

Thomas Farb has joined Indevus Pharmaceuticals Inc. (Nasdaq: IDEV), in the newly-created positions of president and chief operating officer. Farb served as executive vice president and CFO of Indevus between 1994 and 1998, after which he served as CFO of Summit Partners and then as co-founder of New America Partners.

Dorothee Fischer-Appelt has joined the London office of Gibson, Dunn & Crutcher as a capital markets partner in the firm’s corporate transactions practice group. She previously was with Allen & Overy.

David Fishman and Elizabeth Katz have joined Vector Capital as a principal and vice president, respectively. Fishman previously was a managing director of M&A at Goldman Sachs, with a focus on the technology and media markets. Katz previously served as director of corporate business development for PeopleSoft.

Machtelt Groothuis has joined 3i Group as an Amsterdam-based director on the firm’s European buyouts team. He previously was with Taros Capital Holdings, which was the spinout of AlpInvest’s direct buyouts team.

GulfStar Group

, a Houston-based middle-market I-bank, has promoted John O’Brien to assistant vice president and Brian Lobo to associate. O’Brien joined the firm in 2004, while Lono came aboard earlier this year.

Jeffrey Halpern has joined Credit Suisse as head of market risk management for multi-manager portfolios for alternative investments. He previously was head of risk management with Moore Capital Management.

Bill Harrison will retire at year-end as chairman of J.P. Morgan Chase & Co. It is expected that the board will replace him with current CEO Jaime Dimon.

Jean-Marc Cuvilly has joined Triago-X, after having previously been a vice president with Probitas Partners.

John McCormick has joined Monument Group as a director. He previously was with Cambridge Associates.

Michael Paley has joined wealth management firm Focus Financial Partners as senior vice president of business development. He previously was a principal with private equity firm Kidd & Co.

Everett Smith III has joined New Energy Capital as chief financial officer. He had spent the past 15 years with GE Capital, as a managing director and executive vice president in the GE Structured Finance Group.

John Snow, former U.S. Treasury secretary, has been named chairman of Cerberus Capital Management. Before joining the Bush Administration in 2003, Snow had been chairman and CEO of railroad operator CSX Corp.

Tricor Pacific Capital has made four hires: Joseph Lucke joins as a Vancouver-based vice president, after having been a principal with DLJ Merchant Banking Partners; Rob Wildeman joins as a Vancouver-based senior associate, after having been an I-banking associate with Citigroup; Derek Senft joins as a Vancouver-based associate, after having been an I-banking analyst with CIBC World Markets; and Jonathan Dries joins as a Chicago-based associate, after having worked on M&A transactions for Robert W. Baird & Co.

Ron Tysoe

, former vice chairman and CFO of Federated Department Stores, has joined Perella Weinberg Partners as a senior advisor.

Charles Wahle has joined Brown Gibbons Lang & Co. as a director, and head of a new Boston office. He has previously worked with such firms as Barrington Associates, Harris Williams and Tucker Anthony Sutro.
