Anne Stausboll was named assistant executive officer for investment operations at the California Public Employees? Retirement System (CalPERS). She will assume her new role in September. In that position, Stausboll will work with the pension fund?s senior investment officers to implement investment strategies for the fund?s real estate, private equity and public equity portfolios; oversee search processes for external managers and consultants; and assure the fund is in compliance with California?s laws and regulations. She will report directly to CalPERS? chief investment officer, Mark Hanson. Stausboll spent six years in CalPERS? legal department before she left in 1999 to join the California State Treasurer?s Office. She most recently served as the state?s chief deputy treasurer, responsible for overseeing the office?s policies, programs and operations.

James Lally, partner emeritus with Kleiner, Perkins, Caufield & Byers, has joined the board of Actuality Systems Inc., a Burlington, Mass.-based provider of spatial 3-D visualization technology.

Earl Yen, a former managing director with Ascend Venture Partners, has been suspended by new employer Citigroup, according to various press reports. He and Margaret Ren, daughter-in-law of Chinese Prime Minister Zhao Ziyang, have been charged by the bank with presenting false information to both the bank and its regulators.

Dan Granirer has joined Sagent Advisors Inc. as a principal. He most recently served as a director in Merrill Lynch?s I-banking group, where he was responsible for relationships with many of Merrill?s largest private equity clients.
