Protege targets global expansion

Protege, a global accelerator in building international technology businesses, has appointed Craig McCallum to the position of senior vice president, business development and Brian Aiken as portfolio vice president.

The appointments are part of Protege’s plan to expand the company and its portfolio of clients, following a second round of funding worth $45 million (A48 million), that was secured last year (see evcj July/August 2000, page10).

McCallum will spearhead business development in the US with a focus on international expansion strategies for existing and potential clients. He was previously chief operating officer of where he was responsible for marketing, business development, network operations, and product development.

As portfolio vice president, Aiken will drive all Central European new business development and will also be responsible for the pan-European build out of Protege’s portfolio companies, specifically in the areas of wireless technology and digital media.

Aiken joins the team from RealNetworks, where he was vice president Europe.
