Scottish tech companies seek funding

Scottish technology companies continue to attract investments in spite of the current climate. The fifth Connect Investment Conference is proof of this. Twenty-four of Scotland’s promising technology companies will be pitching for investment of around £40 million at the conference taking place in Edinburgh on October 22-23.Companies at the last four events managed to raise a total of £150 million. Each company has gone through a selection process to ensure that only “investor-ready” prospects are presented to the audience of over 200 UK and international venture capitalists, institutions and corporate financiers.

In spite of the global downturn and its implications for the technology sector, organisers say that they have had as much interest in this event as in previous years, if not more.

Connect director Ian McDonald said: “There has been keen interest, comparable to previous years, when the technology sector was still perceived to be booming. Astute investors continue to seek high-quality propositions, and that is what the Connect Investment Conference has always provided.”

By bringing together young companies with some of the leading names in corporate finance and investment, the event enables both parties to achieve in 10 minutes something which might normally take months, he added.
