TRS commits to Arlington, Aurora and Carlyle

Teachers’ Retirement System of Illinois announced $350 million in private equity commitments at its Board of Trustees meeting Friday, the fund said.

The commitments were:

• $75 million to Arlington Capital Partners;
• $75 million Aurora Capital Partners;
• $200 million to Carlyle Group.

The Arlington and Aurora allocations represent new relationships, while Carlyle already manages $112.2 million for TRS.

TRS said it had assets of $52.2 billion as of June 30, 2019, making it the 37th-largest pension system in the U.S. As of June 30, 2018, TRS had $6.8 billion in private equity investments from 193 partnerships, a 13 percent allocation and reported a 19 percent return over an 18.2 percent benchmark for fiscal 2018.
