VCs look to dialysis

VC firms NBGI Ventures, Seroba Kernel, and Wellington Partners, have invested €9m in Quanta Fluid Solutions, a developer of haemodialysis.

BrainsToVentures (b-to-v), a network of entrepreneurial private investors based in German-speaking Europe also contributed to the series A equity round.

Investment manager at NBGI Ventures, John E. Milad, said: “Quanta is developing the first system that will deliver haemodialysis treatment at home in a portable, easy-to-use system. This has the potential to improve patients’ quality of life and to provide better health outcomes, while helping to reduce the overall cost of treatment.”

Partner at Wellington Partners, Dr. Rainer Strohmenger said: “The market for haemodialysis provides a high unmet medical need and an enormous growth potential. With its highly innovative SelfCare+ system, Quanta will address both the requirement for better patient care and the necessity to enhance efficiency of treatment.”

In further news, b-to-v also appointed Johan de Ruiter as chairman of the board of directors. He has 30 years of medical device and healthcare experience and was formerly executive vice president of Dialysis International of Fresenius.
