Vickery to quit 3i

Paul Vickery is to quit 3i after 17 years with the firm. In the last eight years he concentrated on technology working for 3i in both Tokyo and London. In Tokyo he led 3i’s activities as managing director of the firm’s joint venture operation and in London his most recent post was in leading the creation and development of 3i’s e-business activities.

With Vickery’s departure a date has yet to be set but is expected to be sometime this summer 3i’s Internet team will be merged with its Software team. Russ Cummings, who was in charge of the Software team, will lead the newly merged team.

Vickery says: “I now intend to pursue an independent career and build a portfolio of interest concentrating on two areas. First, I want to help outstanding businesses expand their horizons and take non-executive board positions. Second, I am keen to help larger corporates develop their relationships with and knowledge of venture capital.” On the latter point Vickery was often contacted by corporates for help with e-business propositions in his role as head of Internet team at 3i.

The Software and Internet team falls under Jo Taylor’s technology team at 3i, which numbers some 50 professionals.

3i recently collected evcj’s Venture Capital Firm of the Year 2000 award.
