3i tempts Permiras Roth

3i has continued this year’s ambitious recruitment drive by poaching Frederik Roth from Permira. Roth will be based in Frankfurt and will report directly to Stephan Kruemmer, managing director of 3i Germany.

Prior to joining 3i, Roth spent nine years at the Frankfurt office of Permira, where he worked on several Continental European acquisitions, including Austriamicrosystems, Leica Microsystems, Single Temperiertechnik and Hofmann Menü.

He has also held management responsibilities in the engineering and Automotive sector with ABB and Aeroquip.

Kruemmer himself was only recruited in January to replace Jane Crawford as managing director of its German, Austrian and Swiss business in a move that saw Crawford return to the group’s UK headquarters. In the first move to rebuild 3i’s German franchise, Kruemmer was recruited from Rothschild’s after considerable experience at both Bertelsmann and Bain.

Other notable appointments to the buyout business this year include Robert Van Goethem, who also joined from Permira to shore up the group’s Benelux region franchise and Jennifer Dunstan, who recently moved from Terra Firma.
