Carlyle builds sales muscle in FoF group

  • Solutions Group houses fund of funds operations
  • Series of hires for business line
  • Hedge, real estate and private equity funds

Johnson came from Schroder Investment Management, where he was director of U.S. institutional business development, a spokeswoman for Carlyle Solutions told sister website peHUB.

Johnson will focus initially on sales and marketing for the Metropolitan Real Estate Equity Management, which is part of Carlyle’s Solutions Group that also includes private equity fund-of-funds manager AlpInvest. The Solutions Group is led by Jacques Chappuis, managing director.

Prior to Schroder, Johnson worked at asset manager BlackRock.

Earlier this year, Carlyle hired Neil Collins as a managing director and global head of sales and marketing, and Reidan Cruz, managing director in global sales and marketing—both in the Solutions Group.

In their roles in Solutions, Collins, Cruz and Johnson work with the in-house sales and marketing teams in the organizations that make up the Solutions Group, including AlpInvest, which had 37 billion euros ($51 billion) under management as of June 30, Metropolitan, with has more than $2.6 billion in capital commitments, and Diversified Global Asset Management, a global manager of hedge funds with more than $6.7 billion in managed and advised assets.

“The Solutions Group has been expanding with the acquisition of real estate and hedge fund business units to its initial private equity arm [AlpInvest], so it was natural to hire senior key sales people to integrate our broad, customized product offerings,” the Carlyle Solutions spokeswoman said.
