Carlyle goes for hip implant

US powerhouse the Carlyle Group has acquired 80% of the largest independent medical forging company in Europe, Groupe Marle, alongside the Marle family and management team for an undisclosed sum.

Founded in 1978 by Bernard Marle, Groupe Marle targets the orthopaedic implant industry and specialises in the forging of hip implant stems. The company is composed of Marle SA, which conducts specialist forging and machining, and HMP (Haute Marne Parachevement) which is a finishing company with expertise in manual and mechanical polishing.

Managing director of the Carlyle Group, Vladimir Lasocki said: “There are strong long-term prospects for the medical implants and equipment segments, and Marle has evolved to become a leading player in this attractive market.”
