Chart of the Week: Oil prices continue down a slippery slope

The latter half of 2014 has seen oil prices continue to trend downwards. The latest information from sister company Oil Price Information Service, illustrated in the accompanying table, shows that the price per barrel of crude is the lowest it has been in over four years, going all the way back to the end of September 2010. The market crested at $142.46 per barrel at the end of June 2008, before nose-diving during the great recession and hitting a low of $36.91 per barrel in the second week of January 2009.
