CVC appoints brewery chief

Private equity and advisory firm CVC Capital Partners has appointed Alain Beyens as CEO of its portfolio company Starbev.

With operations in Bosnia-Herzegovina, Bulgaria, Croatia, Czech Republic, Hungary, Montenegro, Romania, Serbia and Slovakia, Starbev is the brewing operation acquired by funds advised by CVC in December 2009 from Anheuser-Busch InBev. The company currently brews and distributes Stella Artois, Beck’s, Löwenbräu, Hoegaarden, Spaten and Leffe under license from ABI.

Beyens has over 22 years of expereince in the brewing industry and joined Anheuser-Busch InBev, previously Artois Breweries, in 1987. During his time at Anheuser-Busch he held various sales and distribution roles within the group inlcuding general manager Belgium, business unit president Benelux, and most recently was president of the Western European region.

Founded in 1981, CVC has a network of 19 offices and employs 231 employees throughout Europe, Asia and the United States. The firm’s funds currently investing are CVC Fund V, CVC Tandem Fund and CVC Asia III with an aggregate of €18m in equity capital.
