David Retik

A victim of the American Airlines Flight #11 catastrophe, David Retik, 33, of Needham, Mass., died on September 11, 2001.

Retik was a general partner and founding member of Alta Communications, after having worked with Burr, Egan, Deleage & Co.’s communications group since 1993. At Alta, he focused on traditional media and communications industries, and served on the boards of directors of numerous private communications companies.

Prior to joining Burr, Egan, Deleage & Co., Retik worked as a consultant for Ernst & Young’s restructuring and reorganization group, where he advised financially distressed companies and their creditors. Retik graduated from Colgate University with a degree in economics and Asian Studies and received his Masters in Accounting from New York University.

He is survived by his wife Susan, who is expecting a third child to join their son and daughter, Ben and Molly. Retik is also remembered by his parents Alan and Lynn Retik of Weston, Mass., brother Mark Retik of New Jersey, sister Susan Siegel of New York, grandmother Bess Shulman of New York and father- and mother-in-law Saul and Shelly Zalesne of Pennsylvania.

Retik was memorialized on September 14, at Temple Beth Avodah in Newton, Mass. His family requests that, in lieu of flowers, donations be made to the New York Uniformed Firefighters Association, 204 East 23rd Street, New York, NY 10010.
