DIC pulls out of Liverpool talks

Dubai International Capital (DIC), the Middle Eastern fund which has long wanted to buy Liverpool Football Club, has decided to “pull out completely” from any proposed deal.

This week, the relationship between the club’s current two owners, US sports club owners Tom Hicks and George Gillett, seems to have hit a fresh low.

Hicks was not seen at Anfield when the club beat Arsenal to secure its place in the Champions’ League semi final.

Last month, it appeared he had been on the brink of securing his position at the club after DIC had been close to buying Gillett’s 50% share in the club.

On Thursday, Hicks tried to force chief executive Rick Parry to resign without success. This move was not supported by Gillett.

This forced DIC chief executive Sameer al-Ansari to “pull out completely” from acquisition talks, according to a report in The Times.

Merrill Lynch is advising Hicks.
