Editor’s Letter

With summer just around the corner, I wanted to get in one last letter before everyone takes off on their summer retreats. Although given the pace at which deals are getting done and funds are being raised, I am not sure how much of a break the private equity community is going to get.

One person who’ll be staying busy is Ken MacFadyen. He joined the Buyouts team as Managing Editor last month. He had previously been a writer at Buyouts for three years and just recently came back aboard. I am hoping that you’ll all be as happy as I am to have him back. Please feel free to email Ken at kenneth.macfadyen@thomson.com or call him at 646-822-2234 to get reacquainted or to simply introduce yourself.

Perhaps before calling him you should check out his cover story in this issue about the recent private equity run into infrastructure. Highways, energy plants and pipelines need to be built and maintained, and an increasing number of private equity players want to get in on the action.

Another place where activity is heating up is in Canada. Check out Matthew Sheahan’s story about what is driving interest there, and whether or not there’s even a place anymore for U.S. buyers.

On a personal note, I wanted to let you know, Ken will actually be taking over the helm at Buyouts for the next three months. As of press time, literally, I am departing for maternity leave. Have a wonderful summer. See you in September.

Sincerely,

Danielle Fugazy
