EI’s home furnishing start-up

Polish VC firm Enterprise Investors (EI) has committed $3m to the launch of Decorador, a start-up chain of home furnishing stores. EI has committed capital from the Polish enterprise Fund and Polish Enterprise Fund IV. The first store is scheduled to open in Warsaw next month and EI is planning an additional $3m follow-on investment to finance the rollout of the store to other major Polish cities.

Jacek Siwicki, managing partner of Enterprise Investors, said: “Our faith in Decorador’s success is based on the belief that there is a growing demand for home furnishing goods in Poland and that we have entrusted professionals who are experienced in retail trade to manage the project.”

The target for the company is to achieve an eight per cent market share within five years. Its product categories will include textiles, home decor, kitchen and dining, lighting and electric, home use and space savers. EI owns 100 per cent of Decorador shares. It is the fifth retail company in which the firm has invested, after W Kruk, Deni Cler, Eldorado and Apteki Polskie, bringing EI’s total amount invested in this sector to $23m. It is also the sixth start-up company in EI’s portfolio.

Since 1990, EI has invested over $600m in Poland and the CEE through its four funds Polish Enterprise Fund, Polish Private Equity Fund I and II and Polish-American Enterprise Fund.
