Emerging Manager Roundup: Morningside, Maiora, Samantha Wang

Emerging managers raised at least $2 billion in the past few weeks. Venture capital led the way, raising more than $1.1 billion.

Hong Kong-based Morningside Ventures made up most of that venture fundraising. It raised more than $700 million across three funds.

On the public equity front, no fund raised as much as Maiora Asset Manager’s first renewables fund, which brought in $421 million. The company is headquartered in Singapore.

Samantha Wang, director and promoter of RPS Ventures I LP, closed her first fund at $208 million.

Below is a rundown of the most significant emerging PE and VC funds that Buyouts has identified as being in the market over the past few weeks:

Private Equity:

Access Holdings looks to acquire platforms in niche service industries. Its first fund is targeting $250 million.

Apera Capital provides capital solutions to mid-market companies in Western Europe. Its first private debt fund has raised over $59.5 million.

Centre Lane Partners focuses on middle market companies in North America. Its second credit fund has raised $6 million of a targeted $250 million.

CM Capital Group focuses on real estate investments. It raised $2.5 million of a targeted $20 million for its second fund.

Cube Infrastructure Managers focuses on European infrastructure. Its second fund raised more than $88 million of a targeted $588.3 million.

Expedition Capital Advisors is a real estate investment firm focusing in multiple markets across the U.S. It raised $40.7 million for its second co-investment vehicle.

Farol Asset Management pursues buyouts, growth equity, carveouts, take-privates and special situations in the lower-middle market. Its second fund targets $225 million.

First Long Island Investors invests across a wide range of strategies, domestic and international. Its second realty finance fund targets $10 million.

LeapFrog Investments invests in financial services and healthcare businesses in the world’s growing markets. Its third emerging consumer fund has raised more than $148 million.

LP Power invests in energy infrastructure projects in North America. Its third power fund feeder targets $200 million.

Maiora Asset Management was founded by former Deutsche Bank employees. It focuses on finance, renewable energy, and real estate. Its first renewables fund has raised $421 million.

With a focus on tokens, blockchain tech, digital currency and crypto assets, Pantera Capital has raised over $5 million for its third fund.

Prairie Capital provides a range of investment consulting services to its clients. Its third co-investment vehicle has raised over $16 million of a targeted $25 million.

Sirios Capital Management invests in mid- to large-cap companies across the globe. Its second fund targets $75 million.

Sound Harbor Partners is an alternative-investment business that provides private credit to U.S. companies. It has raised more than $99 million for its second fund.

Stronghold Resource Partners focuses on energy and natural resources. Its second opportunities fund has raised more than $43 million.

Tomales Bay Capital is a global investment firm that concentrates on growth equity across a range of industries. Its second Dragon Investments fund closed at $15.95 million.

Venture Capital:

3L Capital Management invests in companies within the technology, media and consumer sectors. Its targeting $200 million for its first fund.

5am Ventures invests in healthcare companies. Its first opportunities fund targets $150 million.

Abstract Ventures is an early-stage venture firm. Its first fund raised more than $27 million.

Archer Venture Capital targets investments in the seed, Series A and select later growth stages. It closed its second fund at over $3.1 million.

Artist Capital provides market services and invests in growth-oriented companies. Its Artist e-Sports Edge I fund raised more than $32 million of a targeted $100 million.

Venture Capitalists Benjamin Bronfman and Steph Sherer are using their Bedrock I SPI fund to invest in the cannabis industry. The fund closed at over $1.1 million.

Ben Ling, an early Facebook executive and still a GP at Khosla Ventures, is raising his own venture fund, targeting $60 million.

Creative Ventures invests in startups using deep technology to solve problems worldwide. Its second fund has raised $10 million of a targeted $50 million.

Human Ventures is an early-stage investor based in New York. Its first fund targets $50 million.

Monk’s Hill Ventures is a firm investing in post-seed-stage tech companies in growing Southeast Asian markets. It targets $150 million for its second fund.
