Enterprise Ireland targets digital media

Enterprise Ireland, the Irish government’s trade and technology body, has committed EURO2.3 million to The Digital Hub, a high tech, broadband-enabled facility for high potential start-ups working in the digital media sector. The project is a joint venture between Enterprise Ireland, Dublin City Council and The Digital Hub and will create a 20,000 square foot enterprise space in the former Guinness Print Depot in Dublin.

The venture is a government initiative to develop a centre of excellence for innovation, creativity, research and learning for new and existing digital media enterprises. It will involve the clustering of Irish and international new media companies in a purpose-built nine-acre site. Over half of the site will be reserved for early stage and start-up companies. These companies will be involved in film, TV, animation, design, post production, games, as well as providing supporting services and technologies.

“The Digital Hub will be a catalyst for the development of the digital media sector in Ireland and presents a huge opportunity for Ireland to build a significant and sustainable position in a market of significant scale,” said Enterprise Ireland CEO Dan Flinter.

Enterprise Ireland has identified the digital media sector as one of the best opportunities for Ireland to develop its high technology internationally traded services sector, said Mary Harney, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Enterprise, Trade and Employment. “Knowledge-driven technology employment has contributed greatly to our economic prosperity and represents the future of the economy,” she said.
