Evercore Snares Microsoft Exec

Brian Roberts has agreed to join Evercore Partners, after spending the past two years in charge of Microsoft’s corporate development organization. He will work with Evercore’s financial advisory practice, which helps corporate officers and boards of directors enhance shareholder value.

Roberts joined Microsoft in January 2001, after having led the corporate development team at Inktomi Corp. He was promoted corporate vice president of corporate development in late 2003, which means that he oversees the sourcing, evaluation and execution of all Microsoft acquisitions and investments.

Neither Evercore nor Microsoft have yet responded to requests for comment, but a source familiar with the situation says that Microsoft’s Marc Brown will be promoted to fill Roberts’ current position.

More on this move in Monday’s edition of the PE Week Wire. More on Roberts can be found here.
