Zynga makes play for Serious Business

Zynga Game Network Inc., a San Francisco-based social gaming company, has agreed to buy smaller competitor Serious Business for an undisclosed amount. Serious Business has raised $4 million from Lightspeed Venture Partners. Zynga is also venture-backed, having raised about $240 million in total VC funding from Digital Sky Technologies, Andreessen Horowitz, Tiger Global, Institutional Venture Partners, Kleiner Perkins Caufield & Byers, Union Square Ventures, Foundry Group and Avalon Ventures.

Google acquires Aardvark

Google Inc.

(Nasdaq: GOOG) has agreed to acquire Aardvark, a San Francisco-based social search company. The deal reportedly is worth around $50 million. Aardvark has raised about $6 million in VC funding from August Capital, Baseline Ventures and Harrison Metal Capital.

CaliSolar acquires 6N Silicon

CaliSolar Inc., a Sunnyvale, Calif.-based developer of solar cells using “dirty” metallurgical grade silicon, has acquired 6N Silicon Inc., an Ontario-based supplier of solar-grade silicon to the photovoltaic industry. No financial terms were disclosed, except that CaliSolar has raised $22.5 million in new funding from existing shareholders and 6N Silicon backers.

6N Silicon had previously raised more than $20 million from Good Energies, Ventures West Management and Yaletown Venture Partners. CaliSolar is also venture-backed, having raised more than $100 million from Hudson Clean Energy, Advanced Technology Ventures and Globespan Capital Partners.

IBM scoops up Intelliden

IBM

has acquired Intelliden Inc., a Menlo Park, Calif.-based provider of standards-based network automation solutions. No financial terms were disclosed. Intelliden has raised about $68.5 million in total VC funding since its 2000 inception from 3i Group, GGV Capital, Matrix Partners, TELUS Ventures and Westbury Partners.

Ampersand-backed RadPharm merges with Medifacts

RadPharm Inc.

, a Princeton, N.J.-based provider of medical image review services for clinical research, has merged with Medifacts International Inc., a Rockville, Md.-based cardiovascular core lab. The combined company will be based in Princeton, and be called CoreLab Partners. Medifacts has raised about $22 million from Ampersand Ventures and SV Life Sciences. RadPharm is also VC-backed, having raised around $32 million in funding from Ampersand, Siemens Venture Capital, Adams Street Partners and Tang Capital Management.

Sony purchases iCyt Mission

Sony Corp.

has acquired iCyt Mission Technology, a Champaign, Ill.-based of high-performance cell sorters for use in disease research and agricultural biotechnology applications. No financial terms were disclosed. ICyt had raised more than $8 million in VC funding from Open Prairie Ventures, Illinois Ventures and Fox Paine.

Dell pays for KACE

Dell has agreed to acquire KACE Networks Inc., a Mountain View, Calif.-based systems management appliance company focused on mid-sized businesses and public institutions. No financial terms were disclosed. KACE has raised more than $11 million in VC funding from Norwest Venture Partners, Focus Ventures and Sigma Partners.

Oracle acquires Convergin
Oracle has agreed to acquire Convergin Inc., a Herzliya, Israel-based provider of real-time service brokering solutions. No financial terms were disclosed. Convergin has raised about $10 million in VC funding from Pitango Venture Capital and Rich Investment Ltd.
