VC-backed Force10, Turin merge

Force10 Networks Inc., a San Jose, Calif.-based provider of network routing and switching equipment, has agreed to merge with Turin Networks Inc., a Petaluma, Calif.-based Ethernet services provider. No financial terms have been disclosed. Force10 had raised more than $400 million in VC funding since 1999 from Advanced Equities, Crosslink Capital, New Enterprise Associates, Meritech Capital Partners, U.S. Venture Partners, Pacesetter Capital and Worldview Technology Partners. Turin Networks is also venture-backed, having raised more than $250 million since 1999 from Bay Partners, Sequoia Capital, Tellabs, Motorola Ventures, Ciena Corp., Millennium Private Equity, DCM, Baker Capital, Tudor Ventures, RWI Group and Advanced Equities.

Eclipsys buys Premise for $38.5M

Eclipsys Corp.

(Nasdaq: ECLP) has acquired Premise Corp., a Farmington, Conn.-based provider of patient flow solutions, for $38.5 million in cash. Premise had raised more than $8 million in VC funding from Milestone Venture Partners, Aetna Ventures, Connecticut Innovations and Inflection Point Ventures.

Mastercard purchases Orbiscom for $100M

Orbiscom, an Irish provider of ecommerce payment solutions, was bought by Mastercard for about $100 million. HgCapital had invested about $17.5 million in Orbiscom in 2001 at a post-money valuation of about $145 million.

BroadSoft buys Sylantro

BroadSoft Inc., a Gaithersburg, Md.-based provider of VoIP application software to the telecom industry, has acquired Sylantro Systems Corp., a Campbell, Calif.-based provider of VoIP applications. No financial terms were disclosed. Sylantro had raised more than $116 million since 1998 from Accel Partners, Mayfield Fund, Scale Venture Partners, Summerhill Venture Partners, Vanguard Ventures and Telesystem-Argo Global Capital. BroadSoft is also venture-backed, having raised about $76 million in total VC funding since 1998 from Bessemer Venture Partners, Charles River Ventures, Columbia Capital, Crescendo Ventures, Grotech Capital Group, RRE Ventures and Meritech Capital Partners.

CA tunes in to buy Orchestria

CA Inc.

(Nasdaq: CA) has agreed to acquire Orchestria Corp., a New York-based provider of data loss prevention technology. No financial terms were disclosed. Orchestria had raised about $50 million in VC funding since 2002 from Doughty Hanson & Co., Benchmark Capital, Constellation Ventures, CrossBridge Venture Partners, Goldman Sachs, New York City Investment Fund and Paladin Capital Management.
