Exits: Plantagenet Sees 70% on Champagne House Exit –

San Francisco-based private equity firm Plantagenet Capital Management LLC this month announced that it sold SCEV Champagne Albert Le Brun, an independent French Champagne producer, to SA Finance du Levant, a French family-owned holding company controlled by Patrick Raulet. Terms of the transaction were not disclosed.

“We tried to develop the company into a premier producer resembling that of a junior Dom Perignon but we were offered such an attractive purchase price that we felt it prudent on behalf of our investors to accept it,” said C. Derek Anderson, a senior managing partner at Plantagenet Capital. Anderson said Plantagenet gained a return of over 70% on its sale of the company.

Plantagenet Capital acquired Champagne Albert Le Brun last February (BUYOUTS Feb. 22, 1999, p. 13) for an undisclosed amount.

Champagne Albert Le Brun is based in Chalons-en-Champagne and had sales of approximately $4.6 million last year.

Plantagenet Capital is a San Francisco-based private equity firm with offices in Paris.
