Howard Margolis leaves Morgan Creek as head of real assets

According to his LinkedIn profile, Margolis is now managing director of a firm called MRP Group. Buyouts was unable to reach Margolis for comment on why he left, or what he’s doing now, and a spokesperson for Morgan Creek Capital said the firm does not comment on personnel issues.

Margolis, believed to have left within the last couple of months, joined the Chapel Hill, N.C.-based firm in September 2012, according to a speaker bio appearing on the website of publisher and conference host PEI Media. Previously Margolis had been director of real assets investments for Willett Advisors LLC, the family investment office of the Michael Bloomberg family. There he worked on investments in private equity, real estate and natural resources.

Mark Yusko, formerly chief investment officer at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill endowment, founded Morgan Creek Capital in 2004. According to its website the firm has 27 investment professionals and 56 employees altogether working in offices in Chapel Hill, New York, Shanghai and Singapore. The firm offers “manager of manager” products in such areas as private equity, real estate, energy and natural resources.
