La Calhene sold to Getinge

Barclays Private Equity and Edmond de Rothschild Investment Partners have sold their share in La Calhène, a manufacturer of isolators and airtight transfer systems for the nuclear, pharmaceutical and food industries to Getinge, a Swedish medical equipment group. Barclays Private Equity generated between a 2 and 2.5 x return on its investment.

Barclays Private Equity and Edmond de Rothschild Investment Partners originally backed the management buyout of La Calhène in 2001 for an undisclosed sum, alongside Technicatome, an existing shareholder, which maintained an 18% stake in the business.

La Calhène has nearly 280 employees in France, the UK and the US. During Barclays Private Equity’s investment, La Calhène has successfully extended its product offering, in particular through the acquisition of Linac, a specialist in e-beam sterilisation systems. The company’s last reported sales figures stood at E40m.
